Good for the Planet

At Habitat Yaupon, we produce a delicious alternative to coffee and tea that is a positive force in the ecosystem and the environment.  The success of this effort is driven by conscientious consumers, yaupon tea-drinking people who care about the health of our natural world and how food is grown and raised.

Locally grown, not imported

Native to the southeastern United States, yaupon is a locally grown, sustainable wild crop that survives freezes, droughts, pests and diseases.  It requires no irrigation, fertilizers or pesticides – just the sun and rain that Mother Nature provides.  And being local and wild-harvested, its carbon footprint is negligible.

 Restores biodiversity to the ecosystem

Mother Nature, unhindered, delivers beautiful harmony and balance. At one time natural wildfires and free roaming bison kept the growth of yaupon in balance with other species. Not so today. The yaupon thickets where we harvest are so overgrown that they choke out other species of plants and wildlife. That's where the mission of Habitat Yaupon comes in. By harvesting wild yaupon, we thin the dense forest understory allowing sunlight to reach the soil. Native grasses can once again flourish, wildlife habitat returns, and biodiversity is restored. When you drink Habitat Yaupon, you become part of this wondrous natural cycle of life.

 Wild crop, not a mono-culture

We hear more and more about the irresponsible forest clearing and environmental damage that is associated with the vast majority of coffee and tea production. Habitat Yaupon is different. Yaupon grows wild on our ranch beneath the oaks and elms. As a hardy native plant species, yaupon thrives in this Post Oak Savannah ecosystem. Truly, your cup of Habitat Yaupon tea is a pure gift of nature.
