Good for People

Health Benefits

Yaupon tea is a natural stimulant with about 60% of the caffeine in coffee. In yaupon, caffeine is paired with the compound theobromine to give a smooth, sustained energy boost and improved mood, memory and concentration.

Studies looking into the phytochemistry of plants from the genus Ilex, to which yaupon holly belongs, are rich in a wide variety of bioactive compounds that promote human health. Among the benefits are:

  • high concentrations of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds
  • stimulates weight loss
  • lowers blood pressure
  • regulates gut microbiota
  • enhances cognitive skills
  • improves dental health
  • regulates blood sugar and insulin
  • reduces risk of cancer and diabetes
  • supports immune system
  • improves cardiovascular function

Clean Food

Our yaupon grows the way nature intended so you don't have to worry about consuming anything but 100% yaupon.  No pesticides, herbicides, fertilizer or other chemicals -- ever!

Peace of Mind

By choosing Habitat Yaupon, you are making a positive impact on the health of planet Earth.  Native to the southeastern United States, our yaupon is a local food.  It is sustainably grown and wild-harvested in a way that improves the entire ecosystem, unlike imported coffee and tea which are typically grown as monoculture crops.

Tastes Great!

Whether you make iced tea with our yaupon, brew a hot cup of dark roast yaupon tea, or even use it as the base of your best kombucha recipe, you're sure to be delighted with what we at Habitat Yaupon call "America's Own Tea."

Some folks say the taste is similar to green or black tea but milder. Those who know its South American cousin yerba mate say it's similar, but in blind tests, they preferred yaupon tea. Yaupon is a bit milder and it lacks tannins, so it won't taste bitter.  You can steep the leaves more than once without losing flavor, giving you twice the tea in every tea bag.

Yaupon can be steeped multiple times without getting bitter the way many traditional teas do.
